 Perhaps, having read the Anita Blake novels first, my expectations were simply too high. - from a review on Amazon of Nightseer, Laurell K. Hamilton's first novel.

 Considering how the series has gone downhill, that made me laugh quite a bit.

Was she every really uphill? I remember reading the first Anita Blake book and thinking it was okay, but not as good as my wife was raving about.

Then again, since my favorite author is Bujold, my standards of characterization are unreasonably high.

The first six-eight weren't bad, the increased bad porn level of the later books is horrible, and now when I go back, I see all the flaws.
