So, in case you couldn’t guess from my signup, I really love feel-good Christmas stories that would not be out of place of Lifetime.  I’m all about having the most magical Christmas ever, the Christmas that you have when you’re a kid and you remember your whole life.  I’m all about the joy of Christmas, and unexpected miracles happening.  I’m all about a crowded family Christmas, where people are sleeping in sleeping bags on the floor and it’s the greatest adventure because we’re ALL TOGETHER. Piles of wrapping paper and big cozy breakfasts.
A Very Brady Christmas and Christmas Vacation both hit the sweet spot for me.

I’m also here for people being stranded at hotels/cabins/houses whatever IN THE SNOW and they can’t go anywhere, but it’s okay.  Fireplaces and hot chocolate always improve a situation.  Or weathering travel delays and keeping the Christmas spirit.  How shall they stay occupied?

Fluffy, cuddly, warm.  All I Want for Christmas is fanfic.

So unfortunately I meant to nominate this year and didn't realize it was time!  But there were still a few things I loved.  Also I'm introducing the teen to the wide array of Trek TV options and I'm feeling like I want more, all over again!

I just want to say good luck, and I will love that 10K words!  Have fun!

My general preferences are here.

My DNW: nominated character death (unless specified otherwise), cruelty/death of animals/children, extreme/graphic/sexual violence.  Canon-level violence is fine.

I’m also down for what-if AUs (no mundane) or mirror universes (like TOS), or AUs where things are going bad.  But give us some light at the end of the tunnel if you do that.  And crossovers.  I like crossovers.

Length Options: Feel free to play around with these, or use none of them.  I do like drabbles for showing different POVs

I’ve listed the opt-ins I really like for each fandom, but you don’t need to use them if you’re not comfortable.

Advice Columns: I really love Ask A Manager, but feel free to make up one that works for you.

AITA: I do love these.  I don’t care if they are fake, they are hilarious and/or infuriating.

Redditships: I also love these.  (I follow both of these on Twitter)

Remix of my fic: The only one I don’t really want remixed is my “Bringing Down the Barriers” series for ND/HB.  Everything else I’ve written in these fandoms is fair game.

Recursive Fic: Same as above.

Journal/Notebook excerpts: What I like about this is the introspection possibility, the way to get the character’s POV that we can’t get in the usual run.

List of the Things Character is not allowed to do – Be funny, be introspective, but some of these people need Skippy’s list.

Epistolary – Whatever medium makes sense for the characters.  I would also consider chat messages to fall under “epistolary”, or emails.

I’m mostly just excited by the prospect of 10K words of fic, feel free to swap around characters within requests as you like.

I know I will enjoy whatever you write!

My general preferences are here.

My DNW: nominated character death (unless noted otherwise), cruelty to animals/children (can be mentioned if needed for story, but do not dwell on it in loving detail), graphic/explicit/sexual violence

I love a story that makes me think twice about climbing the stairs without turning ALL the lights on first.  I'm also into shiny veneers that hide dark secrets.  I like "skeletons in the closet".  I'm also down for characters dealing with things using black humor.

I am a huge fan of "seemingly unrelated group of people trapped somewhere and discover they a) have something in common and b) can't just leave" - see Clue, see And Then There Were None. Even if this is not the fandom we're matched on, I'm always down for a scenario that plays out like one of these movies/books.

Please feel free to get soap opera-ish! Half-siblings no one knew about! Illegitimate siblings you thought were just family friends! Psycho-half-siblings who want to kill you and take your life over! Convenient accidents! Crazy wills and marriages of convenience!  Year-long showers and cracked out "why not" seasons!  (Yes, I'm a huge Dallas fan.)

I love urban legends - the vanishing hitchhiker in particular, but also "the call is coming from inside the house", "room for one more", and the psycho college killer one.  Return to Glennascaul scenarios are also good.

I also have a fascination for unsolved crimes/mysteries, people who've disappeared, and bodies with no names.  Yes, I loved Unsolved Mysteries.

To avoid a ridiculous letter, I’m going to talk about the freeforms up front:

Aftermath - Survivor Guilt: Love this for the should have done better/decided better feels!

Alternate Universe - Hunger Games Setting – More the competition, less the setting of Panem.

Alternate Universe - Mirror Universe: Think like the TOS mirror universe.  I didn’t care for the take on it they did in DS9 where it was like a BDSM extravaganza.

Castaways in Time – So I really loved Island in the Sea of Time, and am down for more of that.

Death - Going out Fighting – I don’t want them to actually die, but feel like they will right up to the part where they don’t.  Fairy Tail has a great scene of this with Gajeel/Levy.

Dreams - Dreams bleeding into reality – Can the character tell that they’re dreaming/not?  I love the feeling of not being able to tell what is what.

Dreams – Nightmares – What if nightmares or what was nightmares are all good.

Magic: Sex to Power Magic – What it sounds like on the tin.

Murder - Murder Mystery – You can play this one a little lighter or more comic, or go dark and atmospheric.  I love Clue, I love And Then There Were None.

One of Us is a Killer – For this one, I love the suspicion of everyone.  I definitely like if its either the obvious person or the least obvious person.

Plot - Dimension Hopping To Find A Timeline That Isn't Doomed – I’d prefer they find one, or at least have the hope of finding one.

Ruined Castles and Fortresses: Creepy and atmospheric go!  Works nicely with trapped together.

Trapped - Trapped with a Killer – Kind of like One of Us, but the killer doesn’t have to be a trusted member of the group.

Trapped - Trapped Together – Stuck together.  Will they be rescued?

Urban Legend - Vanishing Hitchhiker – You know the story.  If you want to riff off one of my Phantom Passenger Wants a Ride Home stories, go for it.

Hurt/Comfort & Grief/Mourning – So these two are basically my safe tags for each fandom.  If nothing else is working for you, give one of them a spin.  Pretty much every fandom has something that would make one or both work.

Magic - Losing Control Over Magic/Powers – The loss of control, the fear that they will harm someone they care about, go.

Ghosts – Whether they’re real or imagined, I enjoy them.

Urban Legend - Room For One More – The elevator operator and the man with the coffin are the same.  Also “Twenty Two” if you’re a Twilight Zone fan.

Vehicles - Broken down car in the middle of nowhere – This is basically a gateway to any number of creepy atmospheric stories, add some danger if you like

Vehicles - Car Accidents – Same as above.

Skeletons In The Closet – Metaphorical or real or both, these always interest me.

Alternate Universe - Characters are the Bad Guys – Flipping the canon on its head is always fun.

Effect - Character who dies in canon lives making everything worse – Doesn’t have to be catastrophe, but if you’ve ever read Q-Squared, you know what I’m after.

Murder - Victim Murders Perpetrators – A little dark justice.

Plot - discovering parent is the villain – I love the feelings of suspicion and betrayal here.

Urban Legend - Psycho Killer at College – You know, the killer in the hall, or it was on Sally Jessy Raphael that a college campus beginning with M would be attacked…. I’d prefer to have characters outwit the killer but be scared out of their minds up until then.

Blackmail – Goes right along with skeletons in the closet.

Effect - Be Careful What You Wish For – Pretty much what it says.

Trapped - Trapped in a Dream World – I like them to know they’re in the dream world, and figure out that they’re trapped.

Characters Cut Off From Home Planet – I think this could be very interesting.

Trapped - Trapped With Someone in Need of Medical Care – I like the helplessness aspect on this one.

Also just a last note, some fandoms I just have more thoughts about.  I'd love something for all of them.

I know I'm going to love it!

My general preferences are here.

Blanket DNW are graphic/extreme violence, sexual violence, cruelty to animals/children, death of nominated characters.

To keep this letter from being five miles long, I like to talk about the generic AUs upfront.  Anything in this section is applicable to all fandoms unless stated otherwise.

ALL: Boarding School AU – This one is all about the hijinks.  Hidden passages, silly pranks and plots, girls vs. boys.  I’ve been reading some of the 1910s-1930s series juvenile fiction lately, and the whole sense of really identifying with the school resonates.  (Grace Harlowe is the latest, for the curious.)

ALL: Canon Divergence AU – I am all about the paths not taken and what-ifs.

ALL: Character Journeys To The Underworld to Rescue Their Dead Friend – I’d prefer friend on this, but love the idea of fighting everything for a person you love.

All: Clue Fusion – Exactkly what it sounds like.  Whether it involves characters from Clue or just mirrors the setup is up to you.

ALL: Dimension hopping to find a timeline that isn't doomed – I love how they refuse to give up, even as the timelines don’t get better.

ALL: Dimension travel to a significantly diverged timeline – Similar to the Canon Divergence AU, only in this one people can go back along the path untraveled back to “current” reality.

ALL: Dimension travel to mirror universe – Again, I like the idea that they can get a glimpse of the mirror universe without getting trapped in it.

All: Figure skating AU – Here for the playful and the fun.  I’ve enjoyed Yuri on Ice and had the early to mid 1990s fascination with figure skating.

ALL: Ice Age Never Ended – I like the idea of sticking the canon in an ice-age landscape (yes complete with megafauna).

All: Most Dangerous Game AU – Humans are the most dangerous game, and this prey fights back.

All: Regency House Party AU – This hits my people gathered together and Regency enjoyment nicely.  Feel free to throw in some suitors, matchmaking mamas, meddlers and lush description.

ALL: Snowed in at a Haunted Hotel – Group of people trapped together, isolated from the outside by the elements (and maybe One of Them is a Killer), having to deal with each other AND there’s a ghost.  I love the snowed in, but feel free to have the ghost/haunting not be real (a la Scooby Doo).

ALL: Trapped on an island – Group of people tapped/stranded together, against the elements, danger in the midst?  My jam.  Conflict over how to handle things?  Go.  One of Them is a Killer.  Go.  Reveal a plot?  Go.

All: Trojan War AU – I was torn between this and Greek Mythology – I am not opposed to having the gods make appearances, but I prefer the human characters.  Hector, Andromache, Odysseus, Penelope, Clytemnestra, Cassandra are some of my faves.  If you put in an Agamemnon analogue, make sure you punish him.

ALL: Duck Tales (2017 reboot) fusion – This is my new fandom hole and I’m tempted to see how people would combine it with other fandoms.  Feel free to leave non-DT characters as they are or make them ducks/birds as appropriate.

All: Hunger Games AU – Really interested in the Games/tribute aspect of this.

ALL: Dinosaurs & Tropical-Type Climate & Flora Survived to Canon – Looking for a lost-world island type thing here (which, of course, canon villains will use in their plots).  Including a pterodactyl is a MUST (and either character is picked up in its claws or rides it)!

All: Earth invaded by aliens – Invaded is the key word here, not interested in the aliens WINNING but I am totally here for opposing sides having to work together.  And if you want to invoke the whole “fauna makes Earth a death world” and have the animals play a part, I am down.

ALL: Heroes & Villains on the Same Side – I like a good story where they have to work together.

All: Jonny Quest fusion – Including Quest and crew and the gadgets could be a lot of fun.

ALL: One Character Writes Tell-All Novel – Spill the tea and make it HOT.

Crossover: Villain from one fandom is causing trouble in another fandom – I’m good with this being either a case where the villains cooperate OR the villain in the destination fandom is just as annoyed, leading to Heroes & Villains working together.

ALL: Reality TV Show AU – Prefer cooking shows for this (i.e. Hell’s Kitchen esque)

All: Thin Man AU (snarky married sleuths) – Doesn’t have to be the same time period (although I am down for that as well) but preserve the Nick and Nora dynamic between the characters.

All: Miss Marple involved – Whether the mystery take them to St. Mary Mead or meet her whilst traveling, don’t overlook the old lady and her knitting.

All: Murder on the Orient Express fusion – Include Poirot if you like, or go for more of the setup.

ALL: True crime podcast AU – Pretty much what it sounds like.

All: Arcane Society AU – I loved these books – the powers, the mystery, the romance.

Crossovers are definitely welcome, as are AUs!  If you cross it over with Clue or an Agatha Christie fandom/detective (Poirot, Marple, Ariadne Oliver, And Then There Were None) I'm good with anything - otherwise, see my preferences - cracky or serious crossovers welcome.

Have fun crossing over and fusing.  I'm down for serious or cracky.  Also, too late to nominate I fell down the rabbit hole of the Duck Tales reboot and would be 100% fine with you adding them to any of the 80s cartoon crossovers.  OBVIOUSLY super optional and up to you.  Have fun!

Blanket DNWs are graphic/sexual violence, cruelty to animals/children, death of characters named in the prompt.

So, since this challenge is a little different, I like to open with a little information about the fandoms, and what I love about them.  Fandoms are in no particular order.

Fairy Tail: I love this fandom.  The story is strong and swivels around on different characters, and there’s so many great moments.  (And so much inherent shippiness!)  I am current on what’s been released in the US so far for the anime and am slowly working through the manga.  My favorite arcs are Grand Magic Games, S-Class, and Battle of Fairy Tail/Fantasia.

Dallas 1978:  1980s extravagance and excess.  JR Ewing scheming, wheeling and dealing.  The way Sue Ellen's alcoholism is real, both the ups and downs.  The fashions!  If you are familiar with the reboot, feel free to hint at it.  I also love the "we'll fight all we want but you take us all on" dynamic.  Would prefer focus on later seasons, unless you want to have some fun with Bobby Ewing's shower.  Also I didn’t nominate it but if you know Dallas 2012 and want to work it in… They did an awesome job of translating all the things that made the original Dallas great, and both main male leads are ridiculously hot.  I wonder what would have happened if Larry Hagman hadn’t died, but the way they brought back original characters and mixed them in with new ones was excellent. I also loved the touches of “real world” (of course the Ewings have a box at Cowboy Stadium!  Of course Jerry Jones knows JR!)

Falcon Crest: I am here all the way for Angela Channing.  Dallas and Falcon Crest used to be my grandmother’s Friday night viewing, and Angela always intrigued me.  I loved how she played feminine wiles and sharp business and was like a deadly snake. The California scenery was good too, but for me the show was always about Angela.  Lance is entertaining, but no match for his grandmother.

Hart to Hart: These two have such chemistry, and I love it.  I like the more serious undercover stuff (like related to Hart Industries) and how they just keep having murders happen around them.  The 80s fashions are also fun!  The first season episode set in Vail is one of the best.

Murder She Wrote: My mother watched this show so much, my brothers and I refer to Angela Lansbury as Grandma.  I love Jessica and how she just stumbles into murders (or is a murder magnet).  I like Cabot Cove stories but some of the travel ones (like Snow White, Blood Red) are also excellent.  Seasons 2-5 are good.

Clue: I love this movie, especially Miss Scarlet - how she is brash, frank, sexy and unapologetic.  I really like the whole "strangers trapped together" deal, especially if they’re trading quips in fancy dress.  This is my favorite movie of all time.

Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys SuperMysteries: I love Nancy in all her incarnations, but chose the Super Mysteries because I think they would make better crossover material with some of the choices.  Travel, adventure, unresolved sexual tension (you can resolve it, it’s OK), the clothes, the flimsy undercover jobs.  This update of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys (and bringing them together) really scratches my 1980s/1990s itch.  I love how they’re always HAPPENING to run into each other and OOPS our mysteries are connected.  Frank Hardy was probably my first fictional boyfriend (so much better than Ned) and the UST, while varying from book to book, is great – but aside from the UST I love how well Nancy and Frank work together.  My faves are The Last Resort, Dangerous Games, Exhibition of Evil.  And Joe!  I love how funny and brash he can be, like taking on the bad guy with a water pistol.

Hunger Games (books):  I enjoyed the first 2 movies as much as the 2 books - a little shaky on the Mockingjay stuff.  I enjoyed getting more in Katniss’ head and I loved the songs in the books.  I’m more interested in the concept, rather than actually using HG characters – having to fight in the ring, and how it impacts their society.

Dungeons and Dragons (Cartoon): The whole part where the kids get sucked into the Realm through an amusement park ride does it for me.  I love how DM is just screwing with them left and right, and love when they’re trying to figure things out.   I love Eric coping through sarcasm and Sheila is the group big sister. My favorites are the Hall of Bones, Dragon’s Graveyard, and The City at Midnight.

Voltron - Lion Voltron: Space explorers!  Beautiful princesses in abandoned castles!  Robot Lions!  Weird fractured storylines pieced together from 2 different animes with plot holes you could fit a Robeast through!  Confused timelines!  I am not interested in any of the later incarnations though.

G.I. Joe: One of my favorites as a kid.  I love the women of the team.  I love the 80s feel.  Some of my favorites are The Funhouse, COBRA Stops the World, and the whole Arise Serpentor Arise mini-series.  When my brothers and I played outside, this was one of the things we played.

Jem: One of my favorites.  I love Jerrica and her need for an alter ego, the dynamics between all the characters, and yes even the music and cartoon 80s fashions.  I like the earlier episodes before things get cracky, but I also enjoy the Stingers eps.

He-Man and Masters of the Universe: My favorite cartoon.  There was something about this one I always liked better than She-Ra, and it's Adam and Cringer's relationship - plus I love Queen Marlena.  I love the Rainbow Warrior ep, Into the Abyss and the Sword in the Stone.  I am getting Netflix purely to watch the reboot.

Ouran High School Host Club: This is a silly fandom with more depth than you think it has, and I love it.  Particularly the last 5 episodes or such (I love the Halloween episode).  For me it turns on the Haruhi/Tamaki/Kyouya possibility.  I love how they’re over the top.

Rihannsu Novels: I love Diane Duane’s Trek work, but I really love the Rihansu.  I love seeing what the Romulans could have been before TNG jacked them up.  Honorable and crafty and adversaries worth fighting.  I also totally love how Duane does McCoy and Spock.

Hell’s Kitchen RPF: This is my guilty pleasure.  I love watching people get yelled at, come up with interesting food, have interpersonal conflict and try to decide who’s going next. I really enjoy Gordon and sous chefs Christina, Scott, Jocky.  My favorite seasons are: the All-Stars, Rookies v. Veterans, and Seasons 14-16.

For weddings in general, I love the details and the planning, the small perfect thing that you remember about the day your whole life.  It's not really a tag, but I'm also totally down for reminscing over wedding pictures/albums, either by nominated characters or offspring.  I'm totally down for a "looking back/remember when" sort of story - especially if it was something that seemed like a disaster (like the bachelor party hijinks) but now is funny.

So in case you didn’t pick up on the trend, 80s country music is one of my comfy places.  It’s the music of my childhood, back in the day when you either played cassette tapes or were at the mercy of the radio.  Feel free to invoke the 80s.

For Hank Williams Jr and David Allan Coe, I realize they both have some music that is questionable by today’s standards (especially Coe).  I have not requested any of that music.

General thoughts on the tags:

Country House Party – Gatherings of people who may or may not have anything in common.  Someone could get married – or murdered – or both.  Prefer Golden Age Detective setting or Regency.

Alternate Universe – Regency – You CANNOT go wrong with Regency-izing anything.

Domestic Fluff – Cooking, hanging out, staying in, grocery shopping.

Wedding Fluff – I love wedding prep and wedding aftermath and receptions.

Snowed in together – Is it romantic?  Are they trapped with a killer?  Is one of them a killer?  Why not all of the above?

Murder mystery party – Can stay fun and light or turn into an actual murder.

A mystery to Solve – Solving it and the fun they have along the way.

Castaways in Time – Stuck in the distant past.  I love Island in the Sea of Time…

Movie Night – Get your popcorn ready, love characters’ reactions to movies, especially when it’s a classic or in-universe joke

Surprise Party – Only good surprises, okay?

Road Trips – Annoying each other in the car, weird things you see at road stops, possibly creepy hotels where you get snowed in or trapped…

Fancy Dress Ball – Descriptions – dresses, food, dancing, social things – are my jam

Amusement Parks – So I specifically love Disneyland (Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, Small World, Main Street) but if you want to go more generic, I love first visits, amusement parks at night, mysteries to solve..

Team Bonding – Every team has their own thing, I’m partial to a little gentle snark

Holidays – I love happy holidays, Christmas is the best but I’m also not opposed to a little Thanksgiving dinner tension when combined with other prompts (such as domestic fluff and team bonding)

Girls’ Night – Getting dressed up to go out, staying in with pizza and movies (if you’ve read Nora Roberts’ Bride Quartet that is EXACTLY the vibe I’m going for)

Team as Family – Similar to Team Bonding (think Spock and McCoy constantly sniping at each other)

Touch-Starved – I actually like going for the small touches here (hand on shoulder, etc) and leading into the big ones

Getting Together – I love the early negotiation stage

Post-Canon – I always like to know what the characters are up to post-canon

Romantic Gestures – I like romantic gestures that make sense for the couple, small rather than grand

The Perfect Book for your Partner – See above (This one is really specific to Levy/Gajeel)

Naughtiness – A little flirtiness or more, the whole “I know we shouldn’t be doing this” factor

Hair Brushing – The pamperedness factor is big here for me

Costume Parties & Masquerades – People have masks!  Couples costumes!  Fair game for naughtiness or mysteries

Dessert & Sweets – I love cheesecake and brownies and sneaking bites of raw cookie dough, but I also love the satisfaction at making the perfect dessert.  Or a perfect strawberry..

Just get a room already – This one is Elfman/Evergreen sinspired but you know the couple that just won’t quit bickering with massive amounts of UST?  Get a room.  Also applies to Nancy/Frank

Moonlit Evening Walk – Romantic stargazing

Snow Day – Can’t go to work?  Staying occupied, maybe having a snowball fight

Road Trip to get away from Real Life Stress – Love the coping mechanism combined with other parts of road trip tag.  Especially if someone keeps trying to bring up the cause of stress.  I think the WandaVision trio is really suited for this…

Snowball Fight – All’s fair in love and war

Onto the specifics:
