desertvixen: woman reading a book (reading)
[personal profile] desertvixen

The Kindle has 42 books on it, and only 1 cost me anything.  I've been able to get rid of 6 actual books.  Some of the books on the Kindle are "desert island" choices (i.e., if this was all I ever had to read) like Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Rilla of Ingleside, and The Velveteen Rabbit.

A lot of what I picked up is "Oooh, interesting and free" so no help with reduction of books.  Not that having less books is really a goal of mine, however, more like maximizing the collection.

Once my feline visitors are gone, and I have my bookroom back, I think I'm buying a new bookcase.

I also need to make some inroads on my to-read pile, which means not buying any for awhile.

I really think I need to get a kindle. Spacewise, while traveling it would save a lot of room. I am curious though if using one is as satisfying as reading a real book.

I don't think I would want to do all my reading on it, but I think for travel it would be awesome. Some stuff, though, is not appreciably cheaper - like the yellow spine Nancy Drews (the original 56) are 5.99/Kindle, which is pretty much what the physical books cost.

The Kindle is pretty awesome.

They have Anne's House of Dreams also and Rainbow Valley, but some of the older ones are apparently missing chunks of stuff where Anne/character is quoting someone else.

Speaking of Anne, did you read the Green Gables Yuletide fics yet?

I did not. For various reasons I red pretty much nothing of yuletide.

One my list though. I'm glad to hear they were good.

I recced one, with Rilla and Ken dealing with after-effects of WWI and married life, and a second one which has two of the secondary characters falling in love.

Check out my rec posts, there's some decent links.

Off to answer your PM!

I got a kindle for Christmas too and found lots of free Mark Twain short stories which I love. I've done some shopping for things as I also got an amazon voucher but I like finding free things too. I got a huge chunk of lm montgomery books for $5 or so, including a few I don't have and bizarrely all the Anne series bar Anne of Windy Willows.

Apparently Windy Poplars is not included because it's the last written and after the magic cut-off. The things you learn.

I like the free, also, because right now my to-read pile is so big I can't really justify adding to it on the Kindle for charge.
