For the liberal-minded on my f-list, may I recommend How The Republicans Stole Christmas by Bill Press, about the religious right. It's a pretty good book, without engaging in vicious attacks. The author gets 2 things very right by me.

1) If women do not control what goes on in our own bodies, we have control over nothing.
2) It's not the job of the government to do the job of the church.

The majority of the book deals with Religious Right attacks on church-state separation. It's rational discussion, without viperous attacks, which I appreciate. I don't like to read something that's so full of venom reason can't penetrate.

I will definately check that book out. I wonder if it's available at the library, though. :\

I've liked the political books you've suggested thus far, so I am certain I will like this one. I already agree with you on the two points you mentioned and I like the fact that it's not just a tirade.

Whatever the merits of the contents, the title made me smile: It's not the Republicans in my county that tried to ban Christmas Giving Trees from our local libraries for the Good of, er, sensitivity-'n- stuff. Whatever else they/we stole, I think Christmas was pretty safe--!

Don't forget to give credit to all the hard-Right fundamentalist Christians who've banned all those nativity scenes and Christmas pageants!

They're stealing the Grinch!

I will check it out as well. I cannot wait till this semester is over so I can start reading what I want again. You wouldn't believe the amount of books I have and am dying to get to.

I went last week to hear John Crawford talk after reading his book (The last true story I'll Ever Tell) and I didn't really like the book. Did you read it? First of all why did he come home from Iraq broke as hell? Second, if a women wrote what he did about treatment of prisoners and whatnot she would be beside Lindsey England in jail. Ok, I will stop now......lol.
