Happy 234th Birthday, America
Jul. 4th, 2010 09:13 pm I love the Fourth. We're not watching the fireworks, but playing with fireworks is the better fun, and that can't happen. Fire warnings because we're in AZ and it's dry. The MV and I went to the city celebration for awhile, to watch the B Troop cavalry demonstration and pet the horses.
One of the reasons it's cool is because I like stuff like seeing the huge holiday or garrison flags (to my fellow Army types, I'm not sure which one they actually DID find) flying over post. I like watching the flag go up, watching it come down, standing there as the music plays and I have my own private little moment with America.
I know some people are amused by this - continue to be amused, because it's one of the days I like to crank up Lee Greenwood "God Bless The USA" (mistakenly known by many as "Proud to be an American") and be proud of America.
We have our problems - plenty of them. We don't always agree on how things should be done, what the best way to do them is, or even that some things should be done. I have faith, however, that we can solve our problems, that we can make our country even better than it is.
Faith in America. Faith in Americans. Faith in us.
