I got my letter up before assignments went out, give me a crossover cookie.
Have fun crossing over and fusing. I'm down for serious or cracky.
My general preferences are here.
Blanket DNWs are graphic/sexual violence, cruelty to animals/children, death of characters named in the prompt.
So, since this challenge is a little different, I like to open with a little information about the fandoms, and what I love about them. Fandoms are in no particular order.
Fairy Tail: I love this fandom. The story is strong and swivels around on different characters, and there’s so many great moments. (And so much inherent shippiness!) I am current on what’s been released in the US so far for the anime and am slowly working through the manga. My favorite arcs are Grand Magic Games, S-Class, and Battle of Fairy Tail/Fantasia.
Dallas 1978: 1980s extravagance and excess. JR Ewing scheming, wheeling and dealing. The way Sue Ellen's alcoholism is real, both the ups and downs. The fashions! If you are familiar with the reboot, feel free to hint at it. I also love the "we'll fight all we want but you take us all on" dynamic. Would prefer focus on later seasons, unless you want to have some fun with Bobby Ewing's shower. Also I didn’t nominate it but if you know Dallas 2012 and want to work it in… They did an awesome job of translating all the things that made the original Dallas great, and both main male leads are ridiculously hot. I wonder what would have happened if Larry Hagman hadn’t died, but the way they brought back original characters and mixed them in with new ones was excellent. I also loved the touches of “real world” (of course the Ewings have a box at Cowboy Stadium! Of course Jerry Jones knows JR!)
Falcon Crest: I am here all the way for Angela Channing. Dallas and Falcon Crest used to be my grandmother’s Friday night viewing, and Angela always intrigued me. I loved how she played feminine wiles and sharp business and was like a deadly snake. The California scenery was good too, but for me the show was always about Angela. Lance is entertaining, but no match for his grandmother.
Hart to Hart: These two have such chemistry, and I love it. I like the more serious undercover stuff (like related to Hart Industries) and how they just keep having murders happen around them. The 80s fashions are also fun! The first season episode set in Vail is one of the best.
Clue: I love this movie, especially Miss Scarlet - how she is brash, frank, sexy and unapologetic. I really like the whole "strangers trapped together" deal, especially if they’re trading quips in fancy dress. This is my favorite movie of all time.
Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys SuperMysteries: I love Nancy in all her incarnations, but chose the Super Mysteries because I think they would make better crossover material with some of the choices. Travel, adventure, unresolved sexual tension (you can resolve it, it’s OK), the clothes, the flimsy undercover jobs. This update of Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys (and bringing them together) really scratches my 1980s/1990s itch. I love how they’re always HAPPENING to run into each other and OOPS our mysteries are connected. Frank Hardy was probably my first fictional boyfriend (so much better than Ned) and the UST, while varying from book to book, is great – but aside from the UST I love how well Nancy and Frank work together. My faves are The Last Resort, Dangerous Games, Exhibition of Evil. And Joe! I love how funny and brash he can be, like taking on the bad guy with a water pistol.
Hunger Games (books): I enjoyed the first 2 movies as much as the 2 books - a little shaky on the Mockingjay stuff. I enjoyed getting more in Katniss’ head and I loved the songs in the books. I’m more interested in the concept, rather than actually using HG characters – having to fight in the ring, and how it impacts their society.
Dungeons and Dragons (Cartoon): The whole part where the kids get sucked into the Realm through an amusement park ride does it for me. I love how DM is just screwing with them left and right, and love when they’re trying to figure things out. I love Eric coping through sarcasm and Sheila is the group big sister. My favorites are the Hall of Bones, Dragon’s Graveyard, and The City at Midnight.
Voltron - Lion Voltron: Space explorers! Beautiful princesses in abandoned castles! Robot Lions! Weird fractured storylines pieced together from 2 different animes with plot holes you could fit a Robeast through! Confused timelines! I am not interested in any of the later incarnations though.
G.I. Joe: One of my favorites as a kid. I love the women of the team. I love the 80s feel. Some of my favorites are The Funhouse, COBRA Stops the World, and the whole Arise Serpentor Arise mini-series. When my brothers and I played outside, this was one of the things we played.
Jem: One of my favorites. I love Jerrica and her need for an alter ego, the dynamics between all the characters, and yes even the music and cartoon 80s fashions. I like the earlier episodes before things get cracky, but I also enjoy the Stingers eps.
Hell’s Kitchen RPF: This is my guilty pleasure. I love watching people get yelled at, come up with interesting food, have interpersonal conflict and try to decide who’s going next. I really enjoy Gordon and sous chefs Christina, Scott, Jocky. My favorite seasons are: the All-Stars, Rookies v. Veterans, and Seasons 14-16.
Cherry Ames: I like both the war timeline stories and the increasingly more specific jobs she works. I love how Cherry cares about people and gets a little meddlesome – but she always does what is right. I love Cherry and Marie Swift.
Vorkosigan Saga: Space opera is good and all but give me ALL THE DRAMA on Barrayar. I love the women of the series best, especially Cordelia and Tej and Laisa. I’m not the world’s biggest fan of Miles, but he may be useful in a crossover. I love how neatly Cordelia cuts through BS.
Captain America movies: I like Marvel, but I especially like Cap – the first one is my favorite. I love Steve and Bucky and Peggy, and how Steve does what is right, even when it’s not convenient.
Captain Marvel: Loved it. I loved the whole end, where Carol blows him away. I loved the nod to the 90s (and 90s Nick Fury is not bad either). I don’t like how she got treated in later movies. I do like the head canon that the reason Nick doesn’t call her in until he does is that he had a bet with Carol.
Wonder Woman movies: I really only liked the first one, but I LOVED that one. I loved all of it. I love Diana’s fierceness. I enjoyed her in the later Snyder movies as well, and I love the role she plays in them.
Hill Street Blues: I’ve been rewatching this one while I work from home, and I love the interlocking stories – and the fact that they don’t win them all. It’s an interesting look back at the 80s. I love the personal stories as much as the cop stories, and it’s fun watching all the different guest stars (like Commander Riker selling coke and Grady Fletcher holding people hostage) generally playing against type. I love that it shows a lot of things that aren’t nice and neat and comfortable.
MASH: Also been watching while I work because I “know” it and it won’t distract. I’d never really sat down and gone all the way through, and while it gets weird toward the end, there’s a lot of real in there – especially as a veteran.
Perry Mason (1957) – As someone who grew up with the 80s-90s TV movies, it is fun to go back and watch the show, especially as concerns young Della. I love the smarts they all have, and the commitment to getting people out of a jam.
Strange New Worlds – Look, I’ve taken a pass on some of the new stuff but please inject this one into my veins. Not just the hotness level of the crew but their feel is so good. I love Pike and Number One, and Ortegas, and the show just keeps hitting you (Like Elysian Fields episode, damn you). I’m curious to see where it goes, especially if it’s supposed to line up with TOS but I’m definitely hooked to watch along the way. It’s also led me to Discovery, just finished S1 this evening and damn.
Dungeons and Dragons (Cartoon), Voltron: Lion Force (1984), G.I. Joe (Cartoon)
Crossover or Fusion
80s cartoon mashup! Feel free to be super cracky/hand-wavy on this one. I'll suspend belief. Some kind of quest they need to team up on? GI Joe team gets to go to space and fly giant robot Lions? They get sucked into the Realm? Feel free to have them meet on some neutral ground, or bring your victims into the Realm.
80s cartoons unite to save the world(s). I’m partial to Eric, Sheila, Presto, Varla (or Eric/Sheila, Presto/Varla), Allura, Lance, Sven, Romelle (Allura/Lance, Sven/Romelle), Beach Head, Cover Girl (BH/CG), Deep Six, Torpedo, Wild Bill, Lady Jaye.
I neglected to nominate He-Man but if you wanted to work in the 80s cartoon or recent Netflix MOTU revelations, that would be lovely as well. Characters I like are He-Man|Adam, Cringer|Battlecat, Queen Marlena, Sorceress, Teela, Man-at-Arms.
I’m also familiar with other 80s cartoons (besides the ones in the letter) such as Thundercats and Visionaries.
Jem and the Holograms (Cartoon), G.I. Joe (Cartoon)
Crossover or Fusion
This is one I always thought would be good. Undercover mission? Zarana trying to pull something on Eric? Concert security?
Pretty much what it says. Partial to Beach Head, Cover Girl (BH/CG), Deep Six, Torpedo, Wild Bill, Baroness, Zarana, Jerrica, Stormer..
Fairy Tail, Clue (1985)
Fusion
Clue set-up but with Fairy Tale characters
Exactly what it sounds like. Either having Fairy Tail characters subbed in as Clue characters, or make it some kind of job. Suggested characters would be Gajeel, Levy, Lucy, Juvia. Gray, Evergreen, Elfman, Laxus, Mira. I see it taking place in FT land.
Fairy Tail, Dungeons and Dragons (Cartoon), Hunger Games Trilogy - Suzanne Collins
Crossover or Fusion
Fairy Tail gets sucked into the Realm? A portal brings our crew to Magnolia? The Realm adventurers get trapped in a Hunger Games style setup (or have to help someone who is?) The S-Class trials are like the Hunger Games.
Any of the above would be good. I’m partial to Gajeel, Levy, Lucy, Juvia. Gray, Evergreen, Elfman, Laxus, Mira, Eric, Sheila, Presto, Varla (Gajeel/Levy, Juvia/Gray, Laxus/Mira, Evergreen/Elfman).
I'd prefer more of a HG setting with DDC and/or FT characters, but am partial to Katniss, Prim, Buttercup and Haymitch.
Dallas (TV 1978), Falcon Crest (TV), Hart to Hart (TV), Perry Mason (TV 1957)
Crossover or Fusion
80s decadence and murder mysteries. I have always wanted a Dallas/Falcon Crest crossover, but feel free to add the Harts into the mix. You can even have them trapped in a Clue-style setup. Someone on either side retains Perry Mason (feel free to use the TV show or the TV movies with Raymond Burr on this one)?
Double crossing and 80s fashions and suspense, oh my. If you have JR and Angela square up, prefer it to be either a draw or she comes out on top. Or maybe Jonathan Hart is merging with one or the other? Or there’s a mystery.
JR vs Sue Ellen is always good, and I think Sue Ellen would team up with Angela in a heart beat. (Please keep Sue Ellen's alcoholic tendencies at bay) The Harts of course. Maybe Miss Ellie v. Angela? If you bring in Perry Mason, don’t forget to include Della. I’m also a fan of Bobby, Lucy, and Lance.
Nancy Drew/Hardy Boys Super Mysteries - Franklin W. Dixon & Carolyn Keene, Clue (1985), Hart to Hart (TV), Hill Street Blues, Perry Mason (TV 1957)
Crossover or Fusion
Either set of sleuths get stuck in a Clue setup? The case takes them to the Hill? A posh case at a mansion? Someone needs Perry's help (or maybe he is one of Joyce's mentors?)
I’m totally here for a Clue style setup (perhaps as part of a weird revenge plot). Feel free to involve other teen sleuths (Cherry Ames, Dana Girls, etc). Or maybe go for a 50s version of Nancy/Frank? I’m a diehard Nancy/Frank shipper. The ladies of Clue and Mr. Boddy. For the HSB crew, I’m fond of Frank, Joyce, Bobby, Lucy, Belker. If you bring in Perry, don’t forget Della. The Harts, obviously. (If you’d like to play on the fact that Jonathan and Jennifer are a little like a grown-up Nancy and Frank, have fun)
Hell's Kitchen (US TV) RPF, G.I. Joe (Cartoon), Clue (1985)
Crossover or Fusion
HK and G.I. Joe - Roadblock is a competitor? A Clue style setup with HK contestestants? G.I. Joe meets Clue?
What it says. Roadblock competing on HK could be funny (both seeing him do it or using the lens of them watching him). HK contestants trapped at a house party? Joe characters stuck at a party with COBRA? Partial to Baroness, Zarana, Twins, Beach Head, Cover Girl (BH/CG), Deep Six, Torpedo, Wild Bill, especially love the ladies of Clue. Gordon, Christina, HK seasons 14-16, All-Stars or Veterans v. Rookies. (Maybe play off the other meaning of Veteran for this one – a whole team of military “rookies”?)
Cherry Ames - Helen Wells & Julie Tatham, G.I. Joe (Cartoon), Captain America (Movies), MASH (TV)
Crossover or Fusion
Feel free to discard time periods in some sort of What If... set up but this is all my vaguely military-related fandoms... or keep to them!
Cherry in Korea or WW2? Cap gets thawed out and joins forces with Joes? Time travel? Joes doing personnel recovery in Korea? Partial to Baroness, Zarana, Twins, Beach Head, Cover Girl (BH/CG), Deep Six, Torpedo, Wild Bill, Cherry, Marie Swift, Margaret Houlihan, Hawkeye Pierce, Colonel Potter, Father Mulcahy, Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, Peggy Carter.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds (TV), Vorkosigan Saga - Lois McMaster Bujold, Clue (1985)
Crossover or Fusion
I'm totally loving Strange New Worlds, and given what we've seen so far, a Clue style plot would be workable. Or they somehow cross with Vorkosiverse? Prole Mr. Boddy is blackmailing Vors?
So thought last night’s ep of SNW was going to be all fun and games until I was sitting on my couch crying. But I can definitely see them stuck in a Clue style plot. I’m really liking Pike, Number One (and Pike/Number One), Ortegas, Uhura, Spock, the ladies of Clue and Mr. Boddy, and Cordelia, Alys, Ivan, Tej (Ivan/Tej), Gregor, Laisa (Gregor/Laisa) and while I generally don’t enjoy a Miles centric story, he could work in either of these.
Wonder Woman (Movies - Jenkins), Captain Marvel (2019), Cherry Ames - Helen Wells & Julie Tatham, MASH (TV)
Crossover or Fusion
More vaguely military but in this one I am definitely looking for the female characters to star! Feel free to discard time periods ...
I had to break this one out because I didn’t want a crossover between the two Captain fandoms. Carol Danvers meets Diana Prince? Cherry Amers meets Diana Prince? Margaret Houlihan meets Diana Prince? Partial to Baroness, Zarana, Twins, Beach Head, Cover Girl (BH/CG), Deep Six, Torpedo, Wild Bill, Cherry, Marie Swift, Margaret Houlihan, Hawkeye Pierce, Colonel Potter, Father Mulcahy, Carol, Maria, Monica, Nick Fury, Diana, Steve Trevor.
