My general preferences are here.

I know I'll love what you write!

Brandy (You're a Fine Girl) - Looking Glass (Song)

More in the letter but basically what if the town on a western bay is in a fantasy realm?

So here are my thoughts:

1.      The song takes place in a fantasy land.  Maybe there’s something special about Brandy or the braided chain?

2.      The man Brandy loves comes home – or he takes her with him. This could be modern or fantasy.

3.      Super-specific and long-shot but… if you’ve read SM Stirling’s Nantucket trilogy (not Emberverse), imagine Brandy belongs to that series.  Bonus points if she’s named for the Brandy in the song.

9 to 5 - Dolly Parton (Song)

Modern update? I love the movie, I love the opening scene used as the video.

If you want to leave this in the 80s timeframe (or riff off the end scenes in the movie) go for it!  If you want to update it for today’s gig economy and online work, go for it.  Or if you want to update the revenge taken in the movie, I’m down for that too!

Just remember: They just use your mind and you never get the credit/It's enough to drive you crazy if you let it.

Family Tradition - Hank Williams Jr. (Song)

I'd like the main character to be a woman, but feel free to keep the famous parent a father. Think 80s country glitz.

I love how much of a mess the main character in the song is, and would love to see it applied to a woman.  Glitz, glamour, brash attitudes, bad decisions, bad choices in men, wild boots and rhinestones… go for it.

Highwomen - The Highwomen (Song)

So much, see my letter for more. But I love love love this song.

My favorite verses involve the healer and the Freedom Rider, but what I would really like is based on this:

We are The Highwomen

Singing stories still untold

We carry the sons you can only hold

We are the daughters of the silent generations

You sent our hearts to die alone in foreign nations

It may return to us as tiny drops of rain

But we will still remain

What stories might these silent generations tell?  I’d be super interested in the perspective of an Army nurse or other female Soldier. (If you somehow want to cross this with Cherry Ames/nurses who were held at Bataan, I am COMPLETELY ON BOARD)

The Ride - David Allan Coe (Song)

I love vanishing hitchhikers and this is a reverse. Please make main character female.

Pretty much what it says.  I’m cool with the driver being Hank Williams, but love the idea of the passenger being a female country singer.  OR…since Hank Williams died when his son was 4, if you wanted to cross this with Family Tradition, I’m totally on board for that.  I want the interaction, and would love to see the singer looking back.  Especially if they belatedly realize the driver was their parent.

River Bank - Brad Paisley (Song)

The part where they tell the boss to suck it and travel around the world on a cruise ship/yacht.

This is what I want:

Still, can you imagine if we ever struck it

I’d go shoot tequila, take a lime and suck it

And we’d tell our bosses they can do the same

We’ll find a big cruise ship and buy the whole dang thing

We’d sail around the world and go to shore in a dingy

If you wanted to cross this over with 9 to 5, I’m there for it!  Or…if they use the strike to get back at the boss!

Or even just what is it like to live on the cruise ship?  Maybe they find out there’s a (ghostly) reason the ship was relatively cheap.
