Romance Novel Letter
Jan. 18th, 2016 09:11 pm So, I love to read, and I'm not ashamed to say that I love romance novels. I generally don't do fanfic for them, but one of my resolutions is to try on as many exchanges as possible.
If you want a better feel for what I like, check the tag that says "dear yuletide writer".
In general, no non-con, dubcon, graphic violence, sexual violence, or character death. I'm cool with "what-if AUs" if that's where the prompt takes you, but not "all the characters live in the same dorm" style ones. Given the subject of the exchange, I am good with sexual content as explicit as in the originals - but if you want to fade to black, that's cool as well.
I see that I'm out for pinch hitters, so whoever chooses me, I wish you the best of luck. I know I'll love it.
Scandal - Amanda Quick
So, this is one of the first explicit romance novels I read, after Jude Deveraux and Sandra Brown. I would say Quick had more impact on my sexuality than either of those. For this one, what I would really like is to find out how things go after Emily's brothers Charles and Devlin come back from India (preferably with respectable fortunes). Do they have wives? Do they get wives? Maybe one of them hooks up with Lady Celeste Hamilton? Show them with some maturity - not too much though! I'm fond of the description of them as "a matched air of gilt candlesticks". How does Simon relate to them? Does their father still pop up to make trouble? Let Emily have some fun as well. Also, if you include any intimate moments between Simon and Emily, please work the phrase "cast adrift on love's transcendant golden shore" in somehow!
Saved by Scandal - Barbara Metzger
So this is a clean Regency (but feel free to let people get down). It was my first exposure to Barbara Metzger and it made me a fan for life. I love all of the hijinks and pratfalls and the humor humor humor inherent in Metzger's work. I love her crazy characters and not-so-crazy characters, and I love this book. I'm thinking it would be fun to bring Lady Floria back (possibly as a widow) to cause more trouble. Not too much trouble, and don't torture poor Galen and Margot too much. Maybe marrying Floria off to Galen's cousin Horrible Harold? Giving Galen and Margot an heir would be great as well.
Bride Quartet - Nora Roberts
So if you read romance, you probably read Nora Roberts. I don't like all of her stuff, but I'm also not a huge contemporary romance fan.
This set of books, however, rates as my favorites of all her work - followed closely by the Stanislaski 6 and the Sign of Seven trilogy. I love the relationships between the four women, the bad weddings, the Scary Linda incidents, how the books build on each other and come full circle, I love the different types of romance, I like that she creates a male lead who gives you SHOES as an apology. (Fantasy, I know.)
Of all the characters, I like Laurel the best. I had expected to like Mac since I am also into photography, but Laurel just worked so much better. I also love the relationship between her and Delaney, and I love the end of Savor the Moment. I'd love to see them take on Linda again, or maybe a few less-than-perfect weddings - or even getting ready for their own wedding. But their wedding should go off without a hitch!
