desertvixen: (behold here is poison)

So I stayed up late to finish it and... yes.  That was something different.

Under a spoiler because I know I can't be the only one reading these for the first time with the new editions:

Did anyone else feel dissatisfied with the ending?  I know it's advertised as being her darkest work, but really?  Probably one of the better characters kills himself, and not even because he's the murderer - but because his father revealed that he was not who he thought he was, not a legitimate son, and not the heir to everything he had tried to hold together.

I can only hope that the widow (who actually did the deed) was headed for that nervous breakdown over guilt.  I was sort of expecting her son to come under suspicion, and for her to reveal herself to save him.

Definite agreement here. That's the one Heyer book I've only ever read just once.
