surrealphantast passed along to me:
1) Total number of films I own on DVD/video:
Over 200. There's a lot of TV on DVD (7 seasons of MASH, all 5 seasons of Babylon 5, G.I. Joe, and so on...) and also a lot of random stuff on homemade video tape. I'm trying to convert the VHS all over to DVD as I find them.
2) The last film I bought:
I just got a birthday check from my father, so this list includes Peyton Place (movie) and 12 Angry Men side by side with The Incredibles. I also picked up some BBC stuff (older Pride and Prejudice, Jane Eyre). The next film I'm buying: Spaceballs, a collector's edition.
3) The last film I watched:
The A&E/BBC production of Pride and Prejudice with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. I love that miniseries. Last movie: The Incredibles
4) Five films that I watch a lot or that mean a lot to me:
1. Clue: I really, really, really love Clue. I have large sections of it memorized. Miss Scarlett is one of my bad-girl heroines. It's also good when I'm in a contemplative mood.
2. Airplane: Yes, another mindless 80's comedy with numerous visual gags. I miss these sort of movies. I enjoy them all : Spaceballs, The Naked Gun, Airplane, Police Academy, and so on.
3. Dogma: This one just has some entertaining moments. It also says *a lot* about any number of Catholics I know. (Including myself) Nothing so true as what is spoken in jest...
4. Burnt By The Sun (Nikita Mikhailkov, director): A few people on my list of friends will recognize this one. It's a Russian movie, and it is very Russian. Takes place durin the period right before the Stalinist purges really kicked off. It's sad, and funny, and a real eyeopener about Russians.
5. Pride and Prejudice (A&E/BBC): This is on my list of best movies of a book ever. I love to watch it, and Elizabeth Bennett is wonderfully done by Jennifer Ehle. I always want to strangle Lydia, although I think Kitty might turn out okay. Oh yeah, and Colin Firth as Darcy isn't bad either. :) I also like his cousin, Colonel Fitzwilliam. The scene between Elizabeth and Lady Catherine DeBurgh (imagine the italics, as needed) is great.
5) Which five people are you passing the baton onto? And why?
1.
dj_celica : Largely for curiosity and insight into what makes my favorite fan artist tick...
2.
rockahulababy : So I know what to have on hand when I get down to Georgia - dinner invitation, extended now.
3.
raeyn : Since we no longer get to have pointless conversations at work anymore... because we have semi-real jobs now! Without W!!! (happy dance)
4.
daveamongus : My favorite Catholic Marine ... if you can steal away time from the military primer and impending fatherhood.
5.
wolfman769 : Again, curiosity... and we all know what that did to the cat....

Date: 2005-05-02 02:45 pm (UTC)I watched that three times when it was first shown on A&E. It took talking to my sister the Slavic linguist to understand some that did not make sense from the histories I had read. Definitely a heart wrenching experience to watch with understanding.
