Open Letter on Driving

Fellow Residents of Augusta:
Can someone PLEASE explain to me what is so difficult about NOT driving like absolute idiots?
I'm not saying I'm a perfect driver, but I guess learning to drive in the Western US did not prepare me for this.
1. Turn Signals Are On The Car For A Reason. That being said, the mere act of turning your signal on doesn't mean it's good to go.
2. Lane changes off the freeway - a lot of these lanes are short, so don't play the dipshit game of not letting people out of a lane that is ending. Also, playing the speed-up-slow-down game with your fellow drivers really is one of the most annoying things ever.
3. Also, if everyone in front of you is trying to get out of a lane (maybe because one of your poorly maintained vehicles has broken down at the intersection?), how about letting them?
4. DO NOT BLOCK INTERSECTIONS. If you can't clear the intersection, even if the light is green, don't enter it. How about not blocking driveways and turn-ins while we're at it?
5. Lastly, running red lights is NOT cool.

Date: 2008-01-26 05:11 am (UTC)I HATE how much this goes on here! I've never seen so much stupidity and blatant disregard for safety in my entire life!
I'm sure people get hit all the time because of others doing it every day.
Doing that does NOT get you to where you are going faster.
How did these people pass their permit tests, much less their DRIVING test?

Date: 2008-01-26 03:02 pm (UTC)It's especially bad because we live by the mall, and when my daughter gets home, I have to fight Wrightsboro everyday. It's the shorter option distance wise, but right where Bobby Jones Ford and 520 are - that's one of the worst intersections for this problem.

Date: 2008-01-27 08:59 pm (UTC)Another thing this "city" doesn't know how to do (and I'd venture to say this entire "state") is construction. Christ on a cracker, get it done with already. I hardly ever see anyone working on the highway, despite all of the construction. You could never get away with such laziness in the north, because you only have about six months before winter comes. (I'm not even saying that they are good about construction in states like Wisconsin and Illinois, but they sure have their shit together more that Georgia and the city of Augusta do.)
I seriously hate this "state" with every fiber of my being and can't wait to get the hell out of the Army so I can get out of this place. (Please note, I'd still rather be in Georgia than be in Korea.)

Date: 2008-01-27 11:28 pm (UTC)The timing is annoying. Of course, the only time I deal with Gordon Highway is generally before PT - when I have the girl back, I don't have to take it home.
They've been working on the stuff along 520 and I-20. You can actually see SOME progress.
