GRRM is a sadistic writer who has big body counts, lots of treachery, and whose characters you should not get attached to. The Targaryen family is seriously NUTS.

The books aren't bad, but not for the faint of heart. He's definitely a "What's the most horrible thing I could do to them?" author.
