We occasionally watch Glenn Beck.  It's sort of a test to see how much BS I can tolerate before the channel has to get changed.

Tonight, he was talking about the Chris Benoit case.  Glenn Beck just "can't understand" why domestic violence victims stay with the people who abuse them.  Why didn't she leave her abusive husband to "save her child"?

You know, Glenn, if you're so lacking in understanding, why not educate yourself?  Why not talk to victims of domestic violence, both male and female?  Why not read some of the massive literature on the condition?

Oh wait, that would interfere with your ability to ask I'm-not-trying-to-throw-the-mother-under-the-bus-but.... questions.  Because maybe you would have learned facts like that when an abused person tries to leave their partner, has made the decision to leave, has acted on the decision to leave - that is the moment when they are most in danger.

Gah. People who've never been abused who tell abused people what to do piss me off. Like they have a clue what it's like to be in a situation like that.

Bingo.

He doesn't need clues, he's Glenn Beck. :)

But...but that would mean he'd have to cop to the fact that the world isn't a simple black and white place where leaving your abuser ends the problem! Because, y'know, there's no way a court would rule that an abusive husband should have visitation rights to his child. Or that a husband would continue to hound the wife who left him.

Oh wait, she could have gotten a restraining order! Because a person freaking out from 'roid rage is going to be stopped by the fact that they might be arrested if they violate the restraining order.

I'll admit it, I've thought myself "why don't people just *leave* a bad situation" but that's usually a frustrated whine after which I answer myself "Because it's not always that simple and you know it."

BTW, this is kepulver under a different journal *doh*

Added you to the friends list in this guise. Long time no see! ((( )))

She had filed for divorce once, then withdrawn the complaint, which alleged domestic violence. I would imagine that he either threatened her over custody or promised he'd change.
