The first thing I saw on the news this morning was about the Marine helicopter that went down. 31 dead Marines.

Oh God, thank you for not making that my husband/our friends

Then I feel guilty because I know that it was someone else's husband and friends.

Praying for their families.

I feel the same way. Wrote about it in my journal too.

Know how you feel. Though I'm left to wonder if it was anyone I know.

I know. I hope not.

The big helicopter crash in Nov 03 (Black Hawk, shot down) happened while I was at FLTCE (Foreign Language Training Center - Europe in beautiful Garmisch, Germany) and Brian was in Iraq. At that time, I had not heard from him for almost 2 months, and needless to say, there was a lot of worry. As it turned out, people from our unit were on *that* helicopter, although luckily, none were killed. I didn't hear from my husband for another week, and luckily he doesn't mind me bursting into tears on the phone.

Russian news - you know, they get a lot more graphic. That was hard to watch.

DV (hoping there are no friends of yours among the *37* and hoping that the number does not rise)

I know how you feel too. I had simliar feelings a couple of weeks ago when I heard that a US sub ran aground hard, killing one man and injuring dozens more. My first thought was whether I knew any of the guys on the boat (turned out my husband does know a guy, who was thankfully okay)

When I heard the news report this morning, my heart went out to the marines and their families. So sad.

I keep thinking...that could have been my brother. If not for his shoulder surgery, he'd likely be in Iraq now. He has a lot of friends over there still.
