Got out of the suffocatingly detailed and into more political intrigue-ish stuff.
Is it just me, or does Stirling include a lot of lesbian couples? There is, of course, the infamous LesbianNinja pair from the Nantucket trilogy (Marion Alston and Swindapa), and another couple in this book. There's one gay guy in this one (the doctor who got his foot eaten in book 1), but I don't think he was paired up with anyone - although he is described as "outrageously swish". The only male homosexual scene I can think of is isn't "real"; one of the bad girls does some window dressing after she knocks out a pair of guards.
I'm kinda sorta starting to think the Protector better watch out for a castle coup...
