The Pope died this afternoon.

Although there are church-related decisions he made that I cannot agree with, I have nothing but the utmost respect for the man himself.

May he rest in peace, a reward well-deserved.

The world seems like a much bigger and scarier place this evening.

Yesterday was good. The briefing was on VA benefits, which really doesn't convern Brian and myself much at this point, since we have about thirteen years left in. The briefer at least was funny, which we can all appreciate.

Then, to home and sleep. Back on base at noon for circuit PT with SFC Carter, and fun was had by all. Except of course the person who was attacked by our neighborhood fire ants. Texas is basically one big fire ant hill, as near as I can tell. That, and the grass made several of us very itchy.

I came into work to be sent home by my platoon sergeant, after photographing a promotion ceremony. Can't complain, can't complain. I did a little book shopping and reading, and some more of the search for a dress to wear to the wedding. Take the pink away, please !!

This morning, I dragged myself out of my nice warm bed and went out into the chilly and dark morning to run in the Race for the Cure here in San Antonio. About ten of us from my company showed up, including our commander and first sergeant, and we ran the 5K in about twenty-five minutes. It was a good time, with mariachis and Indian dancers along the way. We also got cheered along the way, a fact which always makes me feel good to be in the Army. Now and then, it's nice to be reminded. We actually ran in a small formation with our battalion colors.

History final = 86. Yay!! Now I just have to polish off my essays tomorrow/Monday and turn them in, then get my transcripts. I also need to work off the rest of my correspondance hours.

Monday I get to skip PT due to having run today, so I think I'll take Monday and get my yearly vehicle inspection done. I want to hit the gym as well, but that won't be as bad. There's a gym right across from the station where they're doing the inspection on post, so I can dash in and do that.

Brian will be here in 19 days. The intermittent countdown begins now.

[livejournal.com profile] celticdragonfly, I will be sending you the Gaudy Night DVD on Monday, as well. No rush to get it back to me.

Off to have dinner and work on a few various projects...
