I noted that the people responding say almost word for word things I say regularly: I'm against abortion but think that there are better ways to lower the numbers than making it illegal, and that I wish people would take child-rearing classes before parenthood but can't think of a way to have them without them being abused.

My favourite (?) anti-choice crackpot in SD is an older woman, a nurse, who wants abortion to be outlawed because she lost her ability to bear children after an abortion. This would make me say, "I understand what you are saying," except that the abortion she had was illegal. Er....

She had an illegal abortion that damaged her reproductive ability so she wants to make abortion illegal? That's mind-boggling. You'd think the opposite would be true - that she'd want to stop the same thing from happening to others by making sure they had access to legal, presumably correctly done, abortions.

I said she was a crackpot. The only thing I can think of is that she equates ALL abortions with hers, and doesn't realize that they aren't the same animal!
