For My Fellow Honor Harrington Fans

Everyone else can skip this one if they so wish.... It's not so much a spoiler as a speculation.
The "book description" from Amazon - where they have it listed as publishing 10/25 at $17.16:
What price victory? The war with the Republic of Haven has resumed . . . disastrously for the Star Kingdom of Manticore. Admiral Lady Dame Honor Harrington, Steadholder and Duchess Harrington, the single victorious Allied commander of the opening phase of the new war, has been recalled from the Sidemore System to command Eighth Fleet. Everyone knows Eighth Fleet is the Alliance's primary offensive command, which makes it the natural assignment for the woman the media calls "the Salamander." But what most of the public DOESN'T know is that not only are the Star Kingdom and its Allies badly outnumbered by the Republic's new fleet, but that the odds are going to get steadily worse. Eighth Fleet's job is to somehow prevent those odds from crushing the Alliance before the Star Kingdom can regain its strategic balance. It's a job which won't be done cheaply. Honor Harrington must meet her formidable responsibilities with inferior forces even as she copes with tumultuous changes in her personal and public life. The alternative to victory is total defeat, yet this time the COST of victory will be agonizingly high.
So, except for the fact that he's the First Space Lord now IIRC, does anyone else reading this (especially in light of the cover) get the feeling that White Haven might be in danger? Or possibly an attack on Manticore itself?
Also, I see the next Vatta's War book will be ot in March 06.

White Haven?
Date: 2005-10-12 07:37 am (UTC)Gosh I hope Weber (and company?) can get rid of White Haven. The old fart. All the blather about how brilliant he is and his string of victories and none of it on camera in the books -- why should we believe it, or care?
And then there's the icky romance subplot. Poo!
Now me, I think that given the situation as described it's about time for the new Star Empire to take the LACS -- which have been doing the "dive bomber" thing -- and reinvent the concept of the Kamikaze ...

Date: 2005-10-12 08:45 am (UTC)Oh, joy. Now if he could replace pages and pages of tech specs with actual plot, I might consider reading this one.
Does anyone know where I can find a concise synopsis of the series up to this point? I've read them all, but can't remember a lot of what I'm sure are key plot points (owing to the fact that they're mired in pages and pages of tech specs), and I don't want to re-read them all just to read the new one.
