I first ran across Anne in the public library -- in the adult fiction section, of all places, when I turned twelve and was allowed to browse there. I have the entire set in paperback, and have reread them many times. I think my favorite of the series is Anne of the Island, the one where she's away at college. Although I absolutely adore Gilbert, both in the books and the TV version (in the TV version he's played by someone whose primary occupation is standup comic, which sort of blew my mind when I found out about it -- you'd never know from his performance).
I love the first of the Kevin Sullivan/Megan Follows miniseries, and the second one is okay (mostly because I adore Wendy Hiller), but after that they went straight downhill.
