 No Fun Allowed

That why my girls will never dance ANYTHING. I want them to be obedient and be modest. Any dance outfit I have seen is immodest. I'm always telling my girls that any clothing that shows their figure is wrong and God doesn't like it... I even find Irish dancing wrong, not in the dress code, but it the fact that it's not for God: so I don't care how much they beg and whine... no dance in this house...ever.

This is just sad.  Not horrible cruelty, but just petty.

I sympathize with the desire to dress your children modestly.  I am looking at the 4-6X clothes, and cringing mentally.  But condemning dance outfits as immodest strikes me as silly.

 Just sad.

If you read the thread that link goes to, there are some other women that take this person to task.

I did go and read it. And actually clicked through to one of the dance studios.

I'm all for "appropriate place and time", which is a huge problem when I'm out in public. Every time I see a 13 year old wearing more makeup to the mall than I wore to my prom - I cringe.

[livejournal.com profile] rockahulababy and I had dinner last week, and there was this trio at the table next to us. The three year old had on as much jewelry as the two of us together, and the mother and grandmother were members of the Big Helmet Hair club.

I still just find it sad.

The lack of joy made me sad, but I did find it nice that at least one of the people responding said "Well, that's YOUR gig. We dont all do that."

Sorry, that comment was snippier sounding than I meant it.

Yes, some of the people seemed as annoyed with her as we are. :)

The most important thing is knowing that 1) you have to have the extra on stage and 2) teaching your kids that some things are only appropriate in certain times/places. Like leotards and tights for dancing, and other stuff, like not wearing nasty sweaty gym clothes places if you don't have to.

No worries.
