Happy Belated Birthday, USA!
Jul. 6th, 2008 07:03 pm So, I got tangled up in everything I was trying to take care of on Friday.
There's a lot of talk about what's wrong with our country lately.
There are problems. Call me a bleeding-heart liberal, but I think there are certain responsibilities that we should have for our citizens.
Health care, especially for children. Not to mention some focus on prevention, which would cost less money.
Equal rights for our citizens, not discriminating based on their sex, religion, or sexual orientation.
Women's access to reproductive health care not being tied to morality - especially other's people's morality issues.
The attitude that criticism is not okay.
But, for all the things that are wrong, there are so many things that are right.
The biggest thing that is right is the fact that America is made up of Americans. We don't always agree, and many of us (including on this very f-list) have very widely divergent opinions. That is allowed, and it's another one of the things that make this country great.
As long as we care, and keep working on America - she will remain great. Our country is a work in progress, and needs all of us to keep working on her.
