It's interesting that the ladies' night is what you remember of _Thud!_. I read it on a flight out to a con, so there were definitely distractions, but enjoyed it enormously. Of course, I mostly remember the Vimes, but then I labor under a load of lugubrious Vimes love. I look forward to rereading it.
