I'm not among those (I think of Aral as the hero's father, not as the hero himself, even though he is), but I agree with you about what Aral deserves.
I'm just grateful that his scenes in the rest of the series aren't overshadowed by this. I was afraid that they might be for me.
Wonderful and incredibly appropriate icon, BTW.
