A Most Scathing Book Review

I generally do not do negative book reviews. If I read a book and dislike it, it goes to the used book store, and we move along. Maybe I pass word along, or mention it to friends, but generally no further. This one really bites, however.
From June 12, 2005:
I'm also reading this book, Mr Darcy Takes A Wife by Linda Berdoll. It's kind of addictive, like looking at a bad car accident. Every time I'm ready to say toss the book, a part is in there that makes me sit up and pay attention. The sex scenes are sort of embarassing to the characters, IMO - although some of them ring true. Also, some of the things she's doing with the characters are entertaining, and some of them are just sad.

I finished Mr Darcy Takes A Wife. I was kind of annoyed by parts of the journey, but the ending by and large was good. One character in particular did not get what He Deserved (ie, horrible painful death). There were a few cliched parts, but worth reading.
So, awhile back, I picked up a book by the same author entitled Darcy and Elizabeth: nights and days at Pemberley. The first book wasn't heart-stoppingly great.
This one, quite frankly, sucked. Picture a torrid romance novel, make it incredibly overwrought and maudlin, and make characters unable to get their thoughts out of their so-charmingly called "nether regions". I wasn't even mildly titillated, more like embarrassed.
Then there's the issues with her repeating stuff that was in the first book, and making it unclear as to what actually is happening in this book.
Also, Elizabeth Bennet referring to "Darcy dearest".
In the end, while there were some parts that amused me, I did not care what happened to the characters. A fault could have opened in Derbyshire and swallowed them all whole. Fiery death could have ensued.
Also, her use of spellings like "compleat" just screamed "contrived".
Waste of time and money.
