President-elect Obama is giving his speech.

I'm so proud and hopeful I'm almost crying.

I'm glad straight people get that privilege tonight.

I'm sorry, I did see that Prop. 8 passed.

I do think that Obama will be better on that front than McCain.

Obama Supreme Court appointees. Followed by judicial activism as required.

Be kinda nice to get it via legislation rather than judicial fiat, but we'll get there one way or another.

Obama says marriage should be between a man and a woman, just to get elected. The best we can hope for is the court overturning DOMA, but there's no hope they intervene in state constitutional affairs.

Overturning DOMA is a start. Possibly also a decision that marriages valid in the state originally performed must be accepted as valid in another state (using cousin-marriage as a precedent, perhaps).

And I'm looking toward a possible *legislative* legalization in NY in the next few years, given the change in their party-power structure in this election.

None of which helps CA in the short term, of course, or reduces my desire to b*tch-slap a goodly chunk of that state (not to mention the Mormon Church), but I've never thought this'd be quick or easy or without setbacks.

God bless him and God bless America.

Well, you know how emotional we liberals are supposed to get. :)

I'm just relieved the whole mess is over for another four years.

Yes, I voted, mail-in ballot. Which I'm glad I did, because Colorado's ballot was two pages, both sides. One, I don't have the patience to stand in a booth hassling with that for that long, two, I couldn't have stood for that long on the foot I twisted coming down the stairs last Tuesday in any case.

The amendment they were trying to pass out here, giving personhood at conception, I'm reasonably sure it flopped. Best efforts of the "Focusing On Everyone Else's Families But Our Own" crowd in CO Springs to the contrary.

My father, to my sister and I, this morning: "You girls had better plan to go out this weekend to get measured and buy material for your burkas!" *Headdesk headdesk headdesk* I'm sure he intends to spend as much time as possible this weekend in his gun room. "Getting ready" and all, yanno? He's convinced that the Israelis will assassinate Obama before the Inauguration "Because they can't afford to have someone in the White House who's willing to negotiate with Iran."

Please, the opinions of management do not reflect those of the rank & file in this house. I know he's an idiot.

I hopped over to FSTDT earlier. The heart failure has already begun.
