Lots of bookish goodness.
Amusing moment #1: Brian didn't have Amazon wrap my gifts, so Mom wrapped them for me. She made a comment later on about Brian not being very romantic because of one of the titles. I thought she was referring to Full Frontal Feminism by Jessica Valenti (which rocks, by the way), but she wasn't.
Mom, NOT being a fantasy geek like myself, my brother, my husband, and my father, thought that the Terry Pratchett hardcover, Making Money was actually a HOW-TO book. (Cue insane laughter from other Pratchett fans on the f-list.)
Full Frontal Feminism was quite good. Nothing new, and I don't quite think I'm the target audience, since I know I'm a feminist and don't really give a damn if it's cool or not, but an interesting read.
Armed with B&N gift card and some cash, I picked up the following:
A Penguin edition of Persuasion by Jane Austen, with a cover that is not horribly ugly.
A history book, The Hanoverians by Jeremy Black, to round out my collection.
A book of Nevada trivia.
A book on spectacles of Las Vegas, In The Desert of Desire by William Fox that looks interesting.
A book on the history of law enforcement in Southern Nevada, Policing Las Vegas by Dennis Griffin.
Great British Cooking: A Well-Kept Secret featuring classic recipes adapted for American cooks. Not sure how much of it will actually get cooked, but definitely interesting to see what some of these dishes are.
The Meaning of Wife: A Provocative Look at Women and Marriage in the Twenty-First Century by Anne Kingston also looks pretty good.
And a few others....

I picked up the Star Trek Cookbook (Neelix on the cover) as a joke at Starfest. No recipes will ever be made in this house, they're much too outlandish, but yeah, it's fun to have. My TV/movie cowboys and Young & The Restless cookbooks will much likelier get practical use.

European Warfare, 1660-1815 was used in my Military History class as "here's an alternate point of view to my own" by the professor and I preferred Black's interpretation. I'd have to recheck my notes to remember what that was, though.
