Fellow writer, I know you're going to write me something I'll love, so have fun!  Apologies for lateness on the letter, but this one is longish.  I see I'm still up for pinch hit, so hopefully this helps!

My general preferences are here.

My blanket DNW are nominated character death, cruelty/death to animals/children, graphic/extreme/sexual violence

 

Here’s where I talk about the tags, one of my fave things about this exchange.  Although I’ve requested specific tags for fandoms, if I picked it, I like it in general.

 

 

Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence: I can NEVER get enough of this.  I love the what-if factor and seeing where it takes you.  (in fact, just reread Q-Squared so timelines are on my mind right now).  Feel free to run it as a straight canon divergence OR spin off into one of the Dimension hopping/time traveling tags.

 

Alternate Universe - Canonically dead character lives: A specific canon divergence, although generally I like for their survival to make things better.

 

Alternate Universe – Regency: I don’t care what fandom it is, a Regency AU will always make me smile.  This is one of my favorite periods of history.  I love the fashions, the conventions, the plots.  Arranged marriages, debuts at Almacks, country house parties, the Season.

 

Characters solving problems like the fucking adults they are: Pretty much what it says.  No hand-wringing or waffling, just Do The Thing (and maybe have feeling about it after), feel free to complain while you’re working.  I don’t know who nominated this tag but I loved it.  No flailing or Big Mis, just “we need to do the thing, let’s do the thing” energy.  Calm, competent and collected.

 

Country House Party: Feel free to go either Regency or Golden Age of Mystery here.  I love groups of people gathered together who don’t go together, being stuck with social formalities, semi-polite snarky shots at each other, and a mystery (optional).  Great setting for mystery and romance.

 

Couple Getting Married Is Scandalous to Polite Society: This one I generally prefer in some historical periods (like the Regency/Victorian).

 

Dimension travel - meeting alternate versions of self/friends/antagonists: I love this, especially if they have to work with/against themselves.  Either slam a bunch of timelines together (did I mention I just reread Q-Squared?) or one on ones.

 

Fix-It: I’ll tell you where canon hurt me, you apply the bandaid.  Even if it isn’t wrong, sometimes I would have liked a different ending.

 

Lovers finding each other in every alternate universe: Talk about a little romantic effort.  I;m okay with either seeing multiples of the lovers, or just an acknowledgment that they’ve always been together (see Q-Squared).

 

Pon Farr: Prefer more focus on the mental joining, rather than explicit physical details.

 

Time Loop - the part where the looper thought it was over only to realize it totally isn’t: I love that dawning dread oh fuck moment.  Especially if they’re the only one experiencing it.

 

Time Travel Fix-It: Put the bandaid on where canon hurt me, before canon can do it.

 

Travel between alternate timelines: I like seeing the timeline though eyes of a character who doesn’t belong in it – either seeing how it’s wrong or right, depending on their wishes.

 

Vanishing hitchhiker: I will always love one of these.  I’m down for a vanishing hitchhiker in any fandom, any era.  I love the whole part where they don’t realize it’s a ghost until the end.  If you would like to invoke Resurrection Mary, go for it.

 

the "of course you're part of the team!" moment that surprises only the character being told this: I love the acceptance, and the whole “you’ve always belonged”.

 

A/B Kick The Asses Of Bad Guys Who Attack During Their Date Then Go Back To Having A Good Time: This doesn’t necessarily need to be physical, but I definitely love the whole “This Again?” attitude as they take care of the distraction (and if they get a little rumpled, it’s okay).

 

Bedside Vigils: I particularly like seeing one half of the couple doing the bedside vigil (falling asleep on or near the bed is good) even if they’re waiting to say I told you so.

 

bickering like an old married couple: Close subset of “get a room already”, on this one I like to maximize others’ annoyance at the bickering.

 

Can't stop thinking about it - other characters assumed they were dating: On this, I love to see one character analyzing/over-analyzing well, everything after a casual comment… then preferably going on to act on it.

 

get a room already: Stop fighting it and just fuck already.  On this one, I enjoy other people thinking the same thing about the couple, and maybe doing what they can to make it happen.  It doesn’t have to be a casual thing (despite saying just fuck already) but this vibe doesn’t end in “nice sex”.

 

Handcuffed Together: Oh no how will we get apart?  I’m here for struggling, having to work together (not for too long) and getting free.

 

intimate makeouts in cars while pulled over in out-of-the-way places: I’m into both the physical and emotional intimacy here.  Bonus points if it is raining/storming/other bad weather.  Feel free to have them head off into some sort of mystery afterwards where they don’t have Time to Deal with All of That Now.

intimate soft make outs with one character in the other's lap: The intimacy here is key.  Best employed in a darkened room, maybe waking in the middle of the night after being covered with the blanket…. See the last two above.

 

A is hit on by someone pushy; B steps in as A's fake significant other; fake to real pipeline: This is a new one for me, but it goes along with “other characters thought they were dating” – I like the implication that they act like a couple.  And I’m also a fan of a good save.

 

Morning After (Incredible Sex the night before): I’m here for the awkwardness, women wearing their male partner’s dress shirt/t-shirt because it was all she could find, remembering, and repeats.

 

Pulling someone in by their tie for a kiss: I love how this looks/feels (man wearing the tie, woman doing the kissing), and also here for possessive straightening/fixing of ties.

 

That exhausted moment late in the evening when the necktie is undone and the sleeves rolled up: Men in dress shirts that are a little rumpled?  Hair that is a little mussed?  Neckties that are undone and hanging around their neck?  (I also like this with bow ties, btw) Sign me up.

 

Fastening someone's tie and cuffs (then undoing them at the end of the night): I also like this one, goes along with the first two.  I love the dynamic between an established couple for this one.

 

Ridiculously Gothic Atmosphere: Foreboding dark corners and secrets!  Family prophecy and ghosts!  A dark threatening estate owner and a plucky heroine determined to save him.  Hidden passages and secret treasures.  Last night I dreamed of Manderley….

 

Stranded at Roadside Motel (Storm Optional): This can be a venue for case fic or get a room already.  I just like the isolation, especially if you work the weather in, and the feeling that anything could happen here, even if it’s only for a night.

 

Undercover - Undercover as a Couple Leads to Mutual Feelings: Either pretending a little too well, or seeing each other in a new light?  I’m here for We Need a Distraction or We Need to Kiss for…Reasons and We Kept Kissing.

 

Vacation - They Go to Disneyland and Have a Fantastic Time: Really what it says here.  Part of this is because I would like to go to Disneyland myself right now.  Anyway, I love immersing oneself in Disneyland, but would also be down for the wonder of a first visit.  My favorite rides are Haunted Mansion, Jungle Ride, Space Mountain and Small World.  Feel free to combine any of these 4 with a ghost prompt.

 

Alternate Universe - Boarding School: This one is all about the hijinks.  I’m not as invested in the idea of houses (a la HP) but love the idea of the school being somewhat isolated (either physically or more metaphorically), the students having to build strong relationships with each other, and teachers being somewhat overwhelmed.

 

Characters meet at summer camp: Exactly what it sounds like.  I’m good with this either being background or the current setting.

 

Competition Reality Show: To be fair, the only one I really like is Hell’s Kitchen, but if you want to use one as the setting for a case fic or fusion, go for it.

 

Drunken Confessions: I like seeing these, or the aftermath of it.  Will it Change Everything?  Or will they try to ignore it?

 

Huddling for warmth leads to fantastic sex: Oh no we’ll freeze to death!  (I didn’t nominate it separately but I am definitely down for There Was Only ONE Bed (sleeping bag, couch, etc).  Let’s get out of these clothes.

 

"For you; it was always me”: I’m particularly fond of seeing this come to a head.

 

Is it romance? Is it friendship? I don't know but we're important to each other: Pretty much what it sounds like.

 

kissing lots of kissing: Exactly what it sounds like.

 

Megafauna survives to canon's present day: I’m particularly fond of saber-toothed cats here.  Feel free to be a little cracky.

 

Being Picked Off One by One: I love the tension inherent in this one, especially if they don’t know that the person picking them off is an outsider or not.  (I am pretty good either way)

 

Agonisingly slow build-up of sexual tension; result of explosive sex optional: See Morning After and several other tropes but I do love the UST as long as it eventually gets resolved.

 

Competence Kink: Yes people who know what they’re doing and do it. 

 

Roadtrip: Has some elements of stuck together that I like, but also provides case fic possibilities.  I like long conversations, partners snapping at each other, snack breaks and crazy roadside sights.

 

Trapped together - snowed in: I really like the physical isolation of this one.  Murder She Wrote Season 4 episode “Snow White, Blood Red” and ND/HB SM book The Last Resort are essentially what you’re looking for here.

 

"Casual" Sex Turning Tender: Sort of like FWB, but more about the actual sex than the relationship.  Setting out just to get down and feeling a little tender, possessive.

 

Weddings: I love wedding prep drama and fun, weddings themselves, receptions.  Feel free to use as setting or case fic.

 

Bored Old Man Faked His Own Death and Left Clues To Frame His Family Members: In other words, what I thought Knives Out was going to be.  Feel free to use as a Case Fic setup or fuse your characters into it.

 

A & B have an honest and completely frank discussion about difficult subject: Much like Characters solving problems like adults, this one is people having a reasoned, adult, sensitive discussion about a serious issue.

 

Complicated Relationships: I’m here for them, platonic or romantic.  I like outsider POVs on them as well (basically , how do they do it?)

 

Established Marriage - Happy and Domestic: Yes!  Happily married people being happily married, doing couple-y things.  I really like logistics.

 

Found Family: I love both the realization of this and the quiet acceptance of it, and social events based on it.

 

Sleeping Together (Literally): As a single parent, I appreciate sleep.  And there’s something about sleeping next to each other that’s really nice.

 

Touch Starved - Character Startled by How Good Being Touched Feels: This doesn’t have to be crazy torture touch deprivation – I was thinking more the single parent who hasn’t had a relationship where someone *touched* them in some time, rather than constantly being touched by the kids.

 

Alternate Universe - The villains are the heroes and the heroes are the villains: I like how this one turns things on its head and gives you new POVs.

 

Crazy requirements in rich relative's will: I like this for a casefic setup, or some crazy Regency AU involving required marriage.

 

Character's Attempts At Flirting Are So Bad They Are Constantly Mistaken For Attempted Murder: This one just entertains me.  It makes me think of Gajeel from Fairy Tail.

 

In-Universe True Crime: Case fic starter, feel free to involve books/podcasts or adapt a real crime to suit.  I also like the whole “giving a fictional crime the true crime treatment”.

 

Altered States – Fever Dreams/Hallucinations: I’m here for confessions while in this state.

 

 

Can't Stop Thinking About It - A Accidentally Sees B Naked: Pretty much what it says.  Going back to the moment in their head, trying not to think about it when they see them normally, stammery embarrassed moments.

 

Smut - kneeling for cunnilingus and then needing to support her legs as they buckle: I don’t need the explicit details necessarily (blow by blow, or rather lick by lick) but more the overall experience and image, the emotional ties, but yes I love this one.  Feel free to tie in with “staying quiet”

 

Trying to stay silent during sex so no one overhears; not entirely successful: This is also a good one for established couples, but I am totally here for we have to be quiet – women making little gaspy sobs instead of the scream or moan they really want, muffling oneself in a pillow, kissing your partner so they don’t make noise.

 

Risky Public Sex - Almost Caught: The “almost” is key here.  Especially if they are almost close to finishing.  I like the aftermath (stumbling away, missing pieces of clothes, realizing that you left something incriminating behind).  Feel free to translate this one into parents trying to squeeze in some time as well.

 

sparring turns into sex: You know where to go from here – fighting practice that slides to sexy.

 

First Time Seeing Partner Naked: Here I really like the “better/more than I expected” aspect here, the wondering description and the “God I’m so lucky” factor.

 

Established Relationship - They Know Each Other So Well They Can Get Each Other Off Efficiently: While we all love a drawn-out session, sometimes you have 10 minutes.  Either one can end well if you put your mind to it.

 

Massage as Foreplay: Ooops, did my hands slip?

I'm totally here for Spock dealing with the issues related to breaking it off with T'Pring and his father. I imagine there is quite a bit of scandal and information sharing. Is his Pon Farr delayed? Does T'Pris stay on the Enterprise (yes, yes I would totally like this)

 

I am never NOT down for a Regency AU.

 

I am down for some time travel (on the Enterprise, no way!) or dimension traveling - I would be 100% in on our crew meeting a dimension where T'Pris lives and feel free to contrast/compare/go to town. I'd also be in for some of our Kirk wondering what it would be like to work with that Spock.

 

I actually don’t have much to add on this one.  T’Pris lives (either not attacked, or survives it) and Spock takes the actions he was thinking about.  How does everyone take it?

 

I’d prefer nothing more explicit than is already in the novel but I did enjoy her putting the moves on Spock.

One of the things I loved about this version is that he takes her seriously, like a competent adult investigator. Feel free to play on that.

 

Nancy/Frank:

 

If you've seen the show, you know these two need to get a room. Get a room and get down. Then maybe solve a mystery. BUT GET A ROOM.

 

For both of these requests, I am okay if the “case” is just a vehicle for characters to engage in the tags provided.  If you want to have something to frame the case, the “Bored old man” one is ripe for exploitation.  I’m okay if you want to do a case too, but definitely focus on characters – or maybe the case is over and it’s celebration time?

 

So the vibe of this show is different than the books, but I discovered it and LOVE it.  The adversarial competitive vibe between the two (and while I didn’t nominate him, feel free to have Joe instigating/commenting on the vibe between the two of them) is really enjoyable, and I loved that the show totally flirted with them hooking up and then… awkward.  Get a room!  Strand them at a roadside hotel!  They have to pose as a couple and it gets very comfortable.  If you go with “accidentally seeing naked” then I prefer she gets a glance of him.

 

I’m very here for the “tie” tags with this couple.

 

I almost included him, but backed out, but the Nancy Drew/Robert Wagner (yes, Robert Wagner) tag is also there if you feel like using some jealousy.

This is one of my formative ships. Less "get a room", more "how do they not acknowledge how perfect they are for each other?"

 

But they need to get a room - or a car.

A lot of the stuff from the previous prompt applies to this one, too, although maybe a little more implied and less explicit here.  Even I planned to write a sex scene and then toned it down.  More about acknowledging the relationship and their rightness for each other.  The case can be concluded, paper-thin, or totally cracked out.  I’m also more down for AUs like the boarding school one.

 

This is one of the fandoms of my heart. I am here for all the vaguely 1980s-1990s teen sleuth shenanigans. Nancy/Frank UST - PLEASE resolve it!

 

 All right, if you read the SuperMysteries, you know why we’re here.  A vacation spot, a mystery, a chance meeting, UST, and all the glories of the late 80s/early 90s – Nancy noticing that a message is written in eyeliner, not crayon, Joe using a water pistol to fake out a bad guy, Frank Hardy is hot as hell.  My favorites are Dangerous Games, The Last Resort, Exhibition of Evil, Royal Revenge, and Secrets of the Nile.

 

Boarding School – adjacent boys school, girls school?  Bonus points if you bring in another sleuth (paging Jane Marple, Maud Silver or Jessica Fletcher) to be the headmistress

 

Huddling for warmth leads to life-affirming fantastic sex – If you read The Last Resort, you KNOW why I picked this one.  In the book they just kiss, but I would be open to a) a similar situation happening where more happens or b) AU smut. I’m also cool with stranded somewhere in a blizzard with a killer picking them off and stolen kisses/more.

  For this fandom I'm into the parents (probably because that's my stage of life) and all the stuff going on in Parent World (and yes, this totally involves having sex when the opportunity comes up).

 

So you know when you were a kid and heard your parents gossiping and maybe didn’t get all the details right?  Give me a little Peyton Place in Stoneybrook.

 

I love parents solving problems and dealing with logistics and stealing ten minutes for themselves.  How long can you make it before a child notices you’re gone?  (or maybe Elizabeth/Watson meet for lunch and some privacy?)

 

I love love love Watson/Elizabeth, but I also find Richard/Maureen to be interesting, and how that changes things.  Like the fake to real pipeline could be interesting on that one.  Both couples have scope for ties.

 

For Elizabeth and Mrs. Prezzioso, I can see them on some committee together, just wondering how adults perceive the perpetually over-dressed Mrs. P.

I'm here for hotel rooms away from children just as much as I am for stealing 10 minutes in the shower.  I also love couples having a code for "private time" and parents getting away with a little sneaking around.

The tags pretty much speak for themselves, although I think DT could be great with a villains/heroes flip.  Knives Out (with Scrooge as the bored old man) could be entertaing.  Boarding school could be fun.  The megafauna one could be like Jurassic Park, or another crazy experiment.
