Jukebox 2019

My general preferences are here.

On to the specifics:

Ballroom Blitz - The Sweet (Song)

Why are they all here? It's like a song version of Clue, tell me some of their stories - especially the girl.

Fandom thoughts in my letter because they are super-super-optional but may be of use to you.

Lyrics:

And a girl in the corner, let no one ignore her/'Cause she thinks she's the passionate one

What happens if they do ignore her?

So, in my head, when I hear the song, I sort of see the Fairy Tail characters getting in one of their signature brawls… the girl in the corner might be Levy McGarden

The Hanging Tree - James Newton Howard ft. Jennifer Lawrence (Song)

What will they find if they go to the tree at midnight? What caused the tree to be haunted? Who was hung there? Dark and creepy and unsettling is just fine.

Fannish thoughts in the letter. I'm cool if you want to set it in District 12, or go totally away from Hunger Games - I'm more interested the atmosphere and urban legend-ish feel of the song.

What strange things happen?  And “they say he murdered three”?  Did he, or did he not?  If you want to weave it in the Hunger Games or totally ignore the Hunger Games, that’s fine.

Only one thing I don’t like: the substitution of “necklace of hope” for “necklace of ROPE” – it’s a hanging tree.

The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia - Reba McEntire (Song)

I love the video but ignore it - tell me about the song's events, or the lead up to the events, or more modern interaction (like a cold case researcher). See letter for more than you probably want to know.

Okay, if you loved country music in the 80s and 90s, you probably loved Reba. I did. The big hair, the costume changes, the duets with Vince Gill…and the fact that she was probably one of the best artists when it came to videos that really told a story.   This was one of the videos that I LOVED.

Also really love this song. Would be down for a song where the place is haunted by the characters in the song, or a cold case researcher trying to solve it. (Ignore the whole part in the video where she tells him she did it.)

If you go with the cold case researcher, does the wife’s body ever get found? If you go the cold case researcher, ignore the whole video present-day story.

Why does she confess now?

Tell me a story where she sets up the judge (preferably as a younger woman).

Why did no one ever suspect her? After all, it was her fiancé sleeping with her sister-in-law.

The Ride - David Allan Coe (Song)

I love ghost story songs and vanishing hitchhikers, and this one hits it. What happens to the singer?

Way more in the letter!

So a bonus idea here would be for the singer/narrator to meet up with Hank Williams Jr (if you’re into country music) and connect on that level, as the song is about Hank Williams himself.  Or make it about another singer altogether, or have the singer/narrator dealing with a young hitchhiker as well.  But one of the moments that gives me the chills is when the driver says “The whole world called me Hank” and you just KNOW that the narrator has figured out what’s going on.

Say My Name - Odezsa ft Zyra (Song)

So, my interest in this song stems from it being used in a Fairy Tail fanvid (Gajeel/Levy), but I love the dynamic of the girl who no one really notices, but who notices everything - including the kinda rough around the edges guy...

More thoughts in the letter.

The vid in question is here (in case you are interested):

My favorite set of the lyrics:

I wanna go so what'd you say

When you gonna let me know

If you give a damn about me

'Cause you got my hands tied

In my defense I always fall for confidence

And your compliments look good on me

I love their dynamic, and I’d love to see the guy and the girl in the song get together!
