It goes without saying that I know I'll love what you write, so good luck!

General Stuff:

Stories don’t need to be super sappy and sugary/fluffy, but please don’t get all grim and dark. Bittersweet can work if there are hopeful tinges.

I like humor, and I don't think I do a good job of writing it - sparkling snappy dialogue always works!

I generally prefer het or gen. I'm good with explicit sex, but I am not really into any kinks.

I'm a fan of AU, but prefer canon-divergence or "what-if" scenarios, rather than "all the characters are at boarding school together" types (Unless they ARE all at boarding school together...)

Stories where problems are solved by feminine insight/intuition rock!

If you know more than one of the requested fandoms, I love crossovers. But only if you like to write them!

I love urban legends - the vanishing hitchhiker in particular (as you will see).

I also have a fascination for unsolved crimes/mysteries, people who've disappeared, and bodies with no names.

Please no explicit violence/gore (nothing higher than what already exists in a canon) and no graphic sexual violence. I'd also prefer you avoid major (i.e. nominated) character death. Also please no animal violence/cruelty.

Stuff about music:

So this is the first time I’ve signed up for an exchange that is limited to fic/etc where the fandom is songs. Be gentle.

Musically, I like a lot of stuff. As you can see from the requests, my musical taste was largely influenced by country music in the 1980s and 1990s. But I like a lot of songs, if not necessarily following any artists specifically. I could probably have done an entire signup of Reba McEntire songs.

Fancy - Reba McEntire (Song)

I love this song and the video. Maybe a modern retell or an older one? Or the main character from Fancy contrasts with main character from Church Bells?

Okay, if you loved country music in the 80s and 90s, you probably loved Reba. I did. The big hair, the costume changes, the duets with Vince Gill…and the fact that she was probably one of the best artists when it came to videos that really told a story. Fancy only really tells the beginning of the story, and a little bit about the end, but nothing about the middle.

A few ideas:

Tell me about the king or the occasional aristocrat.

What happened to the baby? Does she ever meet up with Fancy?

How did she get to be a movie star? (And if you want to tie in Do You Love Me to this one, go for it.)

Tell me about the Fancy Rae Baker Home for Runaways – building it, the woman who runs it, one of the runaways who gets helped there..

And the initial idea that I came up with too late for Fandom Stocking – Fancy meets the main character from Church Bells (Carrie Underwood), who start in the same kind of place but end up very differently.

The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia - Reba McEntire (Song)
Also really love this song. Would be down for a song where the place is haunted by the characters in the song, or a cold case researcher trying to solve it. (Ignore the whole part in the video where she tells him she did it.)

If you go with the cold case researcher, does the wife’s body ever get found? If you go the cold case researcher, ignore the whole video present-day story.

Why does she confess now?

Tell me a story where she sets up the judge (preferably as a younger woman).
Why did no one ever suspect her? After all, it was her fiancé sleeping with her sister-in-law.

Phantom 309 - Red Sovine (Song)
Another more modern encounter, or perhaps the hitchhiker goes back and finds a monument? Or maybe one of the kids who was saved gets picked up by Big Joe?

If one of the kids gets picked up, please go the route of having them tell the story of how this trucker saved them when they were little – would this make Big Joe stop haunting the place?

Or the dedication of the monument – maybe everyone sees Phantom 309 one last time?

The Ride - David Allan Coe (Song)
Would love a modern or older telling? Doesn't have to be Hank Williams.

I don’t have many ideas on this one, other than it doesn’t have to be a musician.
I love love love vanishing hitchhiker and vanishing driver stories.

Riding with Private Malone - David Ball (Song)
Yes, I love ghost story songs. But tell me something about Andrew Malone, other than his excellent taste in cars.

Not so much about his life in Vietnam, or how he died, but tell me about the kid who bought the cherry red Corvette. Did he get to drive it or park with someone in it? (It's okay if someone is remembering it after he's dead.)

Or tell me about the narrator finding Private Malone’s grave (Arlington, maybe) and visiting it. Maybe he sees him just one more time?
