Well, for one, Leslie Nielsen and Lloyd Bridges are awesome in their roles.

Also, in a lot of the comedies today, it seems like everyone is pushing too hard to make the point. If you have to hammer a joke into someone's head, it's NOT funny. Airplane plays everything straight, and that makes it hilarious.

The sequel isn't horribly bad either. I love the spoof with the information desk.
