Obama says marriage should be between a man and a woman, just to get elected. The best we can hope for is the court overturning DOMA, but there's no hope they intervene in state constitutional affairs.
Overturning DOMA is a start. Possibly also a decision that marriages valid in the state originally performed must be accepted as valid in another state (using cousin-marriage as a precedent, perhaps).
And I'm looking toward a possible *legislative* legalization in NY in the next few years, given the change in their party-power structure in this election.
None of which helps CA in the short term, of course, or reduces my desire to b*tch-slap a goodly chunk of that state (not to mention the Mormon Church), but I've never thought this'd be quick or easy or without setbacks.
