It's crossed my mind from time to time that the military people making policy decisions like this are from the pre-internet era. I'm not sure they really have a grasp of how _aggressively_ Young People Today exercise the right to free speech etc.
An 18 yr old today doesn't have to take his/her recruiter's word for anything. Ten keystrokes in Google will get him/her to Joe's Web Page About How I Left the Army and similar first-person accounts. Not that Joe is necessarily accurate, but it's going to raise questions.
