In point of fact, while the media have certainly played up the story about an "utter absence of WMDs" (and one can, I suppose, forgive people for mistaking propaganda for information), everyone (Bush, Cheney, Rice, not to mention nearly every prominant Democrat) assumed that Saddaam was avidly attempting to get WMDs and indeed, had a decent prospect of achieving his goal in a matter of weeks (with respect of weaponsize biologicals) and it turns out, may have deployed a great deal of that capacity to Syria whilst the getting was good.

Absent terrorist attacking the U.S. with planes prior to 9/11 it might indeed be contrary to the Kellogg-Briand Pact (those violations of non-ratified treaties are a red herring, sir, and you know it) to end a cease-fire with a terrorist-supporting nation run a pint-sized Hitler wanna-be. After--? Not quite.
